Part of the church’s mission is to provide nurture and support for its membership – to act as extended family for those within our circle experiencing transitions or limitations. The following describes the ministries which extend hospitality and assistance to our church community.
Stephen Ministry Shawnee United Methodist Church offers trained, confidential, one-on-one care for persons going through transitions in their lives. Weekly contact with a Stephen minister is available for persons in need of support while experiencing a death, or divorce or illness or other living changing events. For information on such assistance or becoming a Stephen Minister, call Linda Mooney at 913-441-2568.
Ministers of Care Those who are Ministers of Care make monthly visits to homebound members of the church, helping with referrals and errands and bringing communion. If you have need of this ministry or would like to be a part of this outreach, call Leslie Van Blarcom, 913-631-2280.
Prayer
Prayer Shawl and Quilt Ministry This group meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month in the church parlor to knit shawls to be given to persons in need of comfort or solace or in celebration. Call Lynn Moore, 913-631-0921 or Sherry Hutchison, 913-631-2507, for more information.
