Sunday School

What have you been searching for your whole life?

The Sunday school program is the major way in which Shawnee United Methodist Church insures that Bible study is available for all ages in the church. From 9:30 to 10:30 am each Sunday morning, 2 year olds through seniors meet to enlarge their knowledge of the Word of God. What are our adult Sunday School offerings?

New Seekers are “travelers seeking God’s will for our lives.” A small class of parents with elementary age to grown children, they invite those who are willing to search spiritually, as they have undertaken a cover to cover read of the Bible together. They find fellowship in service in the Argentine Food Kitchen and invite your interest.

Keystone members are both sociable and studious with 40 or more in attendance each Sunday. These mostly senior couples and singles enjoy lively discussions of United Methodist studies and current events. This class interacts with potluck dinners, picnics and some field trips, along with their combined efforts that support several local outreach organizations. They invite you to join them in Bible study with knowledgeable teachers and open discussion.

Genesis class, say the members, is one where, once you start coming, you don’t want to miss!  This medium-sized group of adults of varying ages sees their beginning-to-end journey through the Bible as among their recent meaningful studies. Informal, supportive, and caring, they also spend time together at movies and picnics. Come along!

Maranatha, another larger class at SUMC, rotates in leadership as they study theology, social issues, and family issues with a healthy dose of discussion and fellowship. Married, singles, mostly empty-nesters, this class supports a number of outreach missions.  The coffee pot is on!

Sojourners is a diverse group, both in membership and study focus. “The Life You’ve Always Wanted” was a recent study text, and this class enjoyed the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit together. Interactive, participatory and sociable, this mid-size group has an open door for all.

Pathfinders is a fellowship of young adults who join together to learn more about the Bible and how it relates to today's society. We seek to strengthen and improve our bond to God and the church by exchanging and learning about the belief's of others. We welcome young adult singles, couples or any who wish to explore their faith with us. Our class is located in the church annex across the street from the main campus.

Koinonia sees its mission as Bible study. A current events or world religion discussion begins the class period and Bible study follows. Occasional social events provide members with a social base. Singles and couples of any age are welcome to join us.
