What time are your Sunday services?

Shawnee United Methodist Church offers 2 services on Sunday:

9:00  TRADITIONAL WORSHIP

Our most traditional worship service featuring the main acoustical instruments of organ and piano with vocal solos or Handbell special music and congregational hymn singing.

11:00   PRAISE WORSHIP

This high energy worship experience is led by our worship leader, occasional guest soloist, groups, and senior Pastor. The music style is everything from rock, to contemporary gospel, to blues featuring electronic keyboard, drums and guitar.

Each worship service is unique in its own way, but each will feature powerful, Bible based sermons that are relevant to today’s world, great music, and an opportunity to experience God through prayer. So feel free to come at the service time that is most convenient for you and fits your style of worship.

On fifth Sundays we have “One-Worship Sunday” where the traditional and praise worship community is invited to come together for one service at 10:00 AM.   Check our website for these special occasions.

What is your worship like?

The focus of Worship is to insure that there is an opportunity for all who are present to experience God. With that in mind, we try to offer a meaningful worship that includes responsive readings, confession and pardon, always stressing the immeasurable grace of God, but always taking care that different spiritual needs are met as we the Holy Spirit into the midst of our worship experience. Our praise team ministers with contemporary worship songs and a full band. Our gifted musicians and singers also present original worship songs and music as they allow the Holy Spirit to flow through them.

Where will my kids go?

  • Shawnee United Methodist Church offers a nursery for the very young. There are trained staff and volunteers on hand to insure that your children remain safe from abuse.  The nursery is provided for babies eight weeks to 2 years old.  The nursery is located in Room 100 downstairs.
  • Ages 3 years old through 5th grade meet in various rooms for Discipleship Hour at 10:00am. (see room assignments under Children's Ministry)
  • Youth, ages 6th grade - 12 grade - "Brunch Bunch" is at 9:30am in the Gym. This is a time of fellowship and food with announcements and a drawing for prizes.  Youth Sunday School classes are from 10:00am - 10:50am each week. Junior High meet in the Youth Lounge and Senior High meet in Room 303W.  Sunday morning Praise Worship- Many young people participate in leadership through music and other avenues during the 11:00am "Praise" worship, while others are an anchor in the congregation, sitting together down front.

All of our children and youth ministries allow your children to experience the promises of God through praise, worship and biblical instruction. The youth specifically hold to their biblical decree:

Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)

What should I wear?

There is no official dress code at our church. Dress comfortably, but respectful of other’s modesty. Many people dress up, and just as many come dressed casually. We’re more concerned with the condition of your spirit than the attire you wear outwardly. Your comfort may be traditional church attire, jeans and sneakers or business casual. Come as you are!

Will I be asked to give an offering?

As a guest, you are not expected to make an offering. If you are a believer from another faith and wish to worship God with your offering, we certainly don’t wish to inhibit your blessings of thanksgiving to God. The opportunity to practice the Stewardship of giving in our service is a time of celebration at Shawnee United Methodist Church. Our members give as part of their commitment to God and the church, according to 2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Will I be singled out as a visitor?

You will not be asked to say anything or introduce yourself as a visitor. We have a general time of greeting when we each stand and pass the peace of our God to one another. Members of our congregation will typically greet you at this time. You will be invited to sign our guest registry so that we may simply have a record of your attendance at our worship service. Our every intention is for you to feel welcomed. We do not want you to do anything that would make you feel uncomfortable

If I need prayer, will Shawnee UMC pray for me?

Shawnee United Methodist Church is a praying church. We believe in prayer and that we should as Scripture leads us, “Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication.” Our Prayer Team meets to offer intercessory prayer during each of our services. If you have a prayer request, there is a prayer card available in each pew for you to fill out. Simply fill it out and you may turn it in when requested.

If you wish, you may also send prayer requests through the PRAYER REQUEST menu on our website, or you may call the church office. Your prayer request will be forwarded to one of our Prayer team members who will offer prayer on your behalf. If you would like someone to pray with you, one of our prayer ministers would rejoice to pray on your behalf.

Does your church take Communion?

Communion is taken on the first Sunday of each month. We believe in and practice "open communion," welcoming all who love Christ, repent of their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another.
