Music plays an important role in the life of Shawnee United Methodist Church. Our varied worship services include hymns, praise songs, anthems, special solos and ensembles, gathering music, preludes, offertories and postludes -- all chosen and prepared to enhance and unify the worship experience. Our congregation hears music presented by vocal, handbell, instrumental choirs, ensembles and soloists throughout the church year. Celebration, a contemporary praise band, leads the 9:30 Praise Worship Service. The Chancel Choir leads the congregation in music for the 10:45 service and occasionally for the 8:15 service, from the first Sunday after Labor Day to the last Sunday in June.

SUMC believe a strong music program is vital. The church continues to support this ministry through five part-time music staff positions and through the purchase of quality music and supplies for the many ongoing musical groups. Guest musicians are brought in from time to time to enhance and broaden our experiences. The church family attends special music services and concerts in our sanctuary, inviting friens and neighbors in our community.

Many members and friends of SUMC are already participating in and enjoying the fellowship of the ongoing music organizations. These groups are always seeking and welcoming new participants. There is a place for everyone within the music ministries of SUMC.
